Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Makeup

Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Makeup in Ivory (110)
I need another foundation like I need a hole in the head (I suppose I could say that about most categories of beauty products, though, if I'm being honest...), but it's nearly impossible for me to resist the lure of new products.

I mean, I have a foundation that I love and always performs reliably for me (Makeup Forever HD Foundation in 110), but that doesn't stop me from wondering if there might be possibly be an even better foundation out there, one that has the coverage, finish, lasting power and perfect shade for my super fair skin.

It's unlikely I'll find a better one, but I can't help looking.

That brings me to Revlon's new Colorstay Whipped Creme Makeup.

I'd wanted to try from the moment that I first read about it because it reminded me of Laura Mercier's Creme Smooth Foundation, which is a terrific formula for dry skin but sadly doesn't have the right color match for me. I have it in Blush Ivory, which is supposed to be the fairest shade with pink undertones but it's considerably darker than my skin tone so I have to mix it with another foundation to make it wearable and that's just such a hassle that I don't find myself wearing it that often.

And I paid $50 for it, so it's a real disappointment.

The Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Makeup, on the other hand, was about $14 and offers all the benefits of Laura Mercier Creme Smooth plus a shade that actually works with fair skin.

I am seriously in love with this foundation.

It comes in a somewhat bulky glass jar (just like the Laura Mercier) with 0.8 fl. oz. of product (Laura Mercier has 1 fl. oz.).  In addition to its regular lid, there's a plastic stopper-like thing inside the jar that sort of keeps the foundation tamped down and makes it a little bit more air tight.

The foundation has an extremely thick consistency, but it's not a traditional cream or mousse formula.  It's almost the same texture as a night cream, if that makes sense.

What's strange is that as thick as the foundation may be in the jar, it feels extremely light on the skin.  It blends in very easily - I've used both a brush and my fingers, and they work equally well - and never looks cakey or mask-like.

The coverage is beautiful too - I'd call it medium but I think you could easily build it up to fuller coverage with an additional layer.

My favorite thing about it, though?

The finish.

While it isn't dewy or glowy (which are my preferred foundation finishes), it doesn't have that dreaded super fake matte look that the original Colorstay Foundation does.  Instead, it's a natural finish that looks like real skin.

Lovely.

Now, I have it in the lightest shade, Ivory (110), and it probably is a tad too dark for me... but then pretty much every foundation in the world is a bit too dark for me.  Unlike the Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Foundation in Blush Ivory, though, I don't need to doctor the Revlon Whipped Creme Makeup to be able to wear it.  I just make sure to blend it in really well and take it down my neck for a nice, natural look.

The packaging claims that the foundation offers 24 hours of wear, which makes me laugh.  Who on earth would need their foundation to last for an entire day?  I think if you can get 12 to 14 hours from a foundation, you're in a good shape and I have to say, this one does have some pretty amazing staying power.  Despite the fact that my skin isn't really oily any more, it still eats up makeup like nobody's business so even with a primer, my foundation never seems to last super long.  With the Colorstay Whipped Creme Makeup, I got almost 11 hours of wear, which I'm pretty sure is a new record for me so I'm totally sold on its staying power.

I should point out that while my skin has become drier in recent years, it's not particularly dry in the summer and the foundation still works really well for me.  If you have super oily skin, it might be too emollient but otherwise I think it would work for most skin types.

All in all, I can't say enough good things about this foundation. Even if you can find a color match in the Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Foundation, I'd go with the Revlon Colorstay Whipped Cream Makeup instead.  It performs just like the Creme Smooth but at a fraction of the cost - what's not to love?

What's your favorite new drugstore product?

  1. I want to try this foundation! I saw it at the drugstore the other day but they only had one tester shade that was far too dark. In canada its around 20-25 dollars, so i'm very hesitant to spend that much on a product I can't test first or return!

    1. I wouldn't want to shell out that much for a foundation I wasn't sure would match me either - I did it with the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation and definitely regret it. If you can find a color match with the Whipped Creme Makeup, though, it's definitely worth the splurge!

    1. It really is interesting - it feels so thick in the jar, but it's so nice and light on the skin. I am totally in love with this foundation, I swear. :)
