The Balm Shadow/Blush in Down Boy

It's taking all my self-control not to carry on and on about the adorable packaging...
If you've been reading this blog for a while, you know that I am obsessed with the Balm and their many fabulous products.

You may also know that I've been dying to get my hands on their Down Boy blush ever since I tried the other blushes in the line, Frat Boy and Cabana Boy (and Hot Mama).  When the Balm was on Haute Look a couple of weeks back, I jumped at the chance to pick it up at a significant discount.  (I think I paid $11 or $12 for it when it normally retails for $21).

So now that I've had it in my possession for about a week, I can safely say it was worth the wait.

The Balm describes Down Boy as a baby pink, but I think it's more of a mid-tone shade.  While it's definitely cool in tone, I still feel like it's an ideal everyday blush that you could wear with most looks.  Today, I paired it with a warm eyeshadow look featuring bronze and gold-ish tones and it look beautiful.

Like all of the Balm's blushes, Down Boy is super pigmented so a little goes a long way.  It has a really smooth texture too, and blends super easily into the skin. While it doesn't really have a matte finish, the shimmer is extremely subtle so it has a satin finish on the cheeks that delivers a really pretty glow. I think it would be a safe option if you have oily skin or even if you've got large pores and acne scarring.

This is another of the Balm's products that can be used on the cheeks and eyes, so you can definitely get some bang for your buck.

Now, just for comparison, I'm including some pictures of the Balm blushes side by side. (You know, in case you're trying to choose... though if you want my opinion, you need all of them...)

Frat Boy is definitely more peachy in tone, while Cabana Boy is a deeper berry shade.

They're all seriously gorgeous.

Though, in the interest of full disclosure, Frat Boy is still my favorite.

What is your favorite blush these days?

  2. What do you think of "Hot Mama" is it a subtle shimmery-type of blush or way too shimmery?

    1. I'd classify it as subtle shimmer. It definitely adds a glow to the cheeks, but there's no big, chunky glitter to emphasize the pores or anything like that. It's very pretty, IMO, and would work on a variety of skin tones.

      Hope that helps!
