Product Review -- Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette in Mauve Obsessions

Over the past year, Huda Beauty has come out with some really pretty eyeshadow palettes, like the Rose Gold Palette and Desert Dusk Palette, but somehow I managed to hold myself back from buying any.

That's because while the shade ranges for both are quite beautiful, I saw enough reviews to know that several of the shades in each palette had a kind of chunky, glittery texture that's best applied with your fingers -- and I'm not really a fan of those kinds of shadows.

And the palettes are $65 each, so they're pretty pricey.

But I have been curious about the Huda Beauty eyeshadow formulas in general, so I was exited when the brand came out with the smaller Obsessions Eyeshadow Palettes, which contain just 9 shades and retail for only $27.

The Obsessions Palettes are available in 4 shade ranges, but I personally couldn't resist the Mauve Obsessions , which features gorgeous rose, plum, berry, and mauve tones.

(The other palettes are Warm Brown, which has warm brown, red, orange, and copper tones; Smokey, which offers neutral brown, black, and silver shades; and Electric, which features bright blues, pinks, and yellows.)

The palette comes in a small square cardboard compact. There's a small mirror on the inside, but the palette doesn't stay open by itself so you'll need to prop it against something or hold it open to do your makeup.

The shades in Mauve Obsessions include a matte reddish plum, a metallic rose, a metallic light pink, a metallic dark rose, a matte mid-tone brown, a satin deep rose, a matte plum, a matte ivory, and a matte dark cranberry.

I absolutely lovely the color scheme going on in this palette. Rosy/berry/plum eyes are a favorite winter look for me, and this handy, little palette is right in that wheelhouse.

For the most part, I think the shadows perform nicely.  The metallic and satin shades are lovely -- they apply and blend well, and are nicely pigmented -- and the lighter matte shades are pretty easy to work with as well.

The darker matte shades are a little bit harder to apply and blend. They can go on a little patchy and don't blend as easily as I'd like. I find the trick is to apply those deeper mattes in very small amounts and to blend each step of the way -- you can get a nice look that way.

But that is a little more work than some people might like.

Still, I think for $27, you're getting a nice range of colors that work pretty well.  I'm thinking of picking up the Warm Browns palette as a birthday gift to myself later this month, actually.

You can purchase the Obsessions Eyeshadow Palettes at Sephora.

Have you tried the Huda Beauty Obsessions Eyeshadow Palettes? Which one is your favorite?
