A Few Recent Favorites

In my last Favorites post, I explained that I was going to share my favorites whenever the mood struck.

Or whenever I had enough products to do one, really.

I've been trying out a bunch of new stuff recently, but whenever I'm experimenting with brand new products, I like to incorporate some old classics so I know that at least some of my makeup won't wind up looking like a total mess. So that's why some of my recent favorites are -- old goodies.

But there are a couple of new (to me) products thrown in for good measure.

Josie Maran Argan Matchmaster Serum Foundation in Fair/Light

Josie Maran Argan Matchmaker Serum Foundation
I've had this foundation for more than a year, but sometimes it gets lost at the back of my foundation drawer. Recently, though, with the weather getting cooler, my skin has gotten drier and the argan oil in this makes it a really good option when your skin needs a little moisture boost.  The coverage is light to medium and the finish is nice and dewey.

Now, it's supposedly one of those "self-adjusting" foundation, but I don't really buy into the concept of a foundation magically detecting your skin color and transforming to that precise shade. What this foundation actually is is a formula that comes out white and has small beads in it that burst when you rub it so it turns into a skin tone color.

The Fair/Light is a pretty good match for my super pale skin, but there are only two other shades -- Light/Medium and Medium/Dark -- so if they don't work for your skin tone, I think you're out of luck.

Maybelline Color Whisper in Made-It Mauve

Maybelline Color Whisper in Made-It Mauve

As I've mentioned before, I love these balm-y lipsticks.  I don't care what the shade name is, Made-It Mauve is a nice, wearable berry shade for very fair skin like mine, which I love now that we're right in the middle of fall. I've been wearing it a lot recently with neutral eye makeup and a darker plum or berry blush.

So pretty.

I think it would be a good everyday lip shade for most folks.

Tarte Maracuja C-brighter Eye Treatment

Tarte Maracuja C-brighter Eye Treatment
I received a deluxe sample of this eye cream with some Tarte kit or another, and I've just gotten around to trying it this past month. I don't think it's a miracle worker, but I have a noticed a subtle brightening effect on my mild dark circles since I started using it.

What I like best about it, though, is its consistency. It's slightly thick with almost a balm-like feel, but it's nice and lightweight so it blends into the skin easily and doesn't leave behind any residue. I use it during the day and I don't have any issue applying concealer over it.

I have a ton of other eye cream samples to go through, but when I run out, I'm seriously considering buying a full size of the Maracuja C-brighter Eye Treatment.

Maybelline The Mega Plush Volume Express Waterproof Mascara in Very Black

Maybelline The Mega Plush Volume Express Waterproof Mascara
I have zero business buying new mascara when I have so many unopened tubes sitting in my drawer, but I picked this up on a whim at the end of the summer when Maybelline was BOGO 1/2 off at CVS and I needed a waterproof mascara.

I love this as a subtle everyday mascara. I think word "Plush" says it all -- this gives me soft, fluttery, volumized lashes without looking too bold or dramatic when I'm wearing low-key makeup.

If you prefer a more natural mascara that stays on all day and makes you look like you have a ton of lashes, this is definitely one to try.

The only thing I don't like about this mascara is its flexible wand.  Maybe it's just me, but I always seem to whack myself in the eye/face with these bend-y wands when I'm really trying to load up the roots of my lashes with mascara. I have to be extra careful to avoid that.

Anyone who's not spastic like me probably won't have an issue.

What have some of your recent favorites been?

  1. Nice little set of products you have there. I, just like you, am still working my way through samples of eye-creams. I just hope that I will remember the truly good ones once I used it all up.
But it´s similar for me with face-creams and shampoos.

    1. I'm the same way with samples -- I haven't bought eye cream, shampoo and body wash in months because I have so many samples to get through. But I've gone through so many that I do forget which ones I liked best. At least if I include them in a post, I'm guaranteed to remember. :)

  2. recently I've been LOVING Maybelline's full and soft waterproof mascara. I really need waterproof to hold the curl. it holds my curl all day, is waterproof/resistant enough to not smudge (unless I actually rub my lashes and it will flake), keeps them nicely fanned and is not clumpy, feels soft - not brittle- to the touch, and comes off with jojoba oil and my microfiber face cloth. my lashes are nourished and not breaking from a waterproof formula...yay!

    1. Maybelline's Full and Soft is one of my favorite mascaras too. I haven't purchased it in a while, but since you reminded me how good it is, I'll have to pick it up when I finish the Mega Plush Volume Express. :)
