Review -- M.A.C. Tropical Taboo Lip Products

In the past couple of months, I've bought quite a few lip products from M.A.C. limited edition collections.

They seem to be my weakness when it comes to these never-ending stream of limited edition products.

Unfortunately, with almost all of them, by the time I got the products, they were sold out online and I didn't want to do reviews on products that wouldn't be easy for folks to get their hands on.

With the most recent collection (I think it's the most recent anyway; there are so many that I may have missed one along the way), Tropical Taboo, though, the two products that I picked up are actually still available on the M.A.C. website , so I'm not too late with my review.

And I'm glad that I can talk about these items because I'm crazy about both.  If you like a nude lip, you probably will be too.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I am all about the peachy lipsticks so picking up the Mineralize Rich Lipstick in Luxe Naturale was a no-brainer.

Now I'd never tried one of the Mineralize Rich Lipsticks before, but now that I have, I kind of want to buy a bunch more. The formula is incredibly smooth and creamy, and it's just moisturizing enough to feel good on the lips -- without being so moisturizing that it doesn't last on the lips.  It also has a slightly shiny finish so you don't have to worry about it making your lips look dry or flaky.

It is definitely my favorite M.A.C. lipstick formulation, that's for sure.

M.A.C. Mineralize Rich Lipstick in Luxe Naturale

M.A.C. describes Luxe Naturale as a light beige cream, but I'd call it a peachy nude. It has just enough warmth that it doesn't make a fair-skinned girl like me look like death warmed over the way plenty of nude lip colors can.

The lipstick retails for $22 and you get 3.6 grams of product.

There was one other lip product from the Tropical Taboo collection that I just couldn't pass up -- the Cremesheen Glass in Calypso Beat.

I'd never tried a Cremesheen Glass before either this collection either, but it's another winner. I typically don't mind M.A.C.'s Lipglasses even though they're super sticky because they last quite a while on the lips. The Cremesheen Glass doesn't have that annoying stickiness -- it has a creamy, smooth feel instead.

But it still has pretty good staying power because it has a somewhat thick consistency that allows it to last for a good two or three hours for me (even when I'm throwing back the Diet Cokes like nobody's business).

M.A.C. Cremesheen Glass in Claypso Beat
M.A.C. describes Calypso Beat as a pale neutral peach and I think that's pretty accurate. While it doesn't have in your face shimmer, it does appear to have extremely subtle gold microshimmer sprinkled throughout.

The gloss retails for $20 and you get 2.7 grams of product.

Calypso Beat pairs beautifully with Luxe Naturale and since I got the two last week, they've been my absolute favorite lip combination.

Luxe Naturale (top), Calypso Beat (middle), & Luxe Naturale with Calypso Beat on top (bottom)
The perfect peachy nude lip, in my mind.

You can purchase both the lipstick and gloss at your local M.A.C counter or store or on the website

Have you purchased anything from the Tropical Taboo collection?  What's your favorite nude lipstick?

  1. Luxe Naturale is such a lovely peachy nude. I think it will look more pretty when its layered.

But it looks more good with Calypso Beat on top of it.
