June 2013 Favorites

For many people, I'm sure what I'm about to say sounds like crazy talk but I've always traveled to the beat of my own drum so...

I'm not really a summer person.

There, I said it.

I hate the heat.  I hate the humidity.  I hate sweating.

I actually prefer the winter, if you can believe that.

So I'm happy that June's over.  It means the summer is like a quarter over (well, according to my admittedly screwy calculations...).

(Of course, July and August promise to be even hotter and sticker but ...)

But despite my distaste for months like June, I still had a few favorites that got me through.

I'll start with the bareMinerals Ready Eyeshadow 8.0 in the Power Neutrals.  I just did a review of it the other day, so you can find all the details and swatches there.

I loved this palette this month because it's so easy to use -- the colors blend easily and wear like a dream. It also contains plenty of light to mid-tone shades, which I prefer in the summer because if my eye makeup fades, creases, melts, etc., it's not as noticeable with lighter shades.

I also used my Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze like crazy in June. Now, I'm sure almost everyone is well aware of this little gem by now but I can't sing its praises enough.

A few times, I wore it all by itself when I was in a hurry (with a shadow primer like Too Faced Shadow Insurance or Urban Decay Primer Potion underneath to make sure it stayed in place in the heat ) but it also makes an ideal colored base for a variety of natural eye makeup looks.

I think it's one of the Color Tattoos that everyone should have.

The one thing I do like about the warmer weather is that it allows me to make better use of the face powders in my collection -- more specifically, the ones that tend to be a little more matte or mattifying since my face actually gets pretty shiny in the summer.

In June, I found myself reaching for the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Poreless Finish HD Micro Powder quite a bit.

It's one of those super finely milled, translucent powders that helps mattify the skin and really does help diminish the look of pores. I've got some pretty massive ones on my cheeks and a light dusting of the powder really does wonders.

It makes me wish I could use it year round, but when my skin is dry in winter, it doesn't play nice with the Bye Bye Pores.

When it came to lip combos in June, there was one that I wore the heck out of -- and it probably comes as no surprise to longtime readers of this blog, but it was a peachy combination.

The bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Be Free, which is a peachy nude, pairs beautifully with the bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Rock Star.

In fact, they may be two of my favorite lip products of all time -- alone and together.

Rock Star, for sure, is my favorite gloss of all time.

It's a gorgeous peachy shade with multicolored micro-shimmer throughout.  Absolutely stunning.

On a totally unrelated note, tomorrow is Independence Day here in the U.S., so have a happy 4th if you're in the states.  If you're not, have a very happy Thursday.
