Product Review -- Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Volume II Eyeshadow Palette

About a year ago, Tarte came out with their Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette and I fell instantly in love.

I love the super creamy texture of the shadows so much that I remember thinking I wish Tarte would use it for all of their shadows.

Now, Tarte has come out with some pretty good shadows in the past year (the Tarte Pro Amazonian Clay Palette tops the list), they didn't take my advice about the Rainforest of the Sea formula.

But fortunately, they did decide to come out with a Rainforest of the Seat Volume II Eyeshadow Palette, which means eight new shadows in that fabulous formula.
Like the original Rainforest of the Sea Palette, Volume II comes in a circular compact with pretty blue, purple, and gold sea-inspired artwork. There is a nice size mirror inside that stays open by itself, so it's ideal for doing your makeup.

There are eight shadows inside: Pearl, a shimmery ivory; Conch, a matte cream; Sunset, a shimmery light yellow gold; Marina, a matte caramel brown; Seaside, a matte mid-tone brown; Siren, a dark black brown; Breezy, a shimmery slate gray; and Riptide, a shimmery deep navy.

The formula in Volume II is identical to the one used in the original Rainforest of the Sea. The shadows are a powder but they are extremely creamy. That means they blend like a dream and don't really create any fallout to speak of.

The shade selection is also quite nice -- there are some warm tones, but they are also a few cool shades so you can do a variety of looks.

From l. to r.: Pearl, Conch, Sunset, Marina

From l. to r.: Seaside, Siren, Breezy, Riptide

For a simple everyday look, I love Pearl on the lid and Seaside or Marina in the crease.

For a smoky look, I love Breezy on the lid and Riptide in the outer corner and crease to darken things up.

I definitely recommend checking the palette out if you're looking for a versatile, mostly natural palette.

(The palette is identified as limited edition, but so was the original and it's still available on the Tarte website.)

It retails for $36 on the Tarte website and at Sephora.

Have you tried the Tarte Rainforest of the Seat Volume II Eyeshadow Palette? Do you prefer it to the original?
