Product Review -- Tarte Maneater Eyeshadow Palette

I love Tarte's eyeshadows (in case you couldn't tell from the three reviews in the past couple of weeks), but I kind of feel like they're putting out too many palettes these days.

I just can't keep up.

Still, despite the fact that I already have a ton, the Maneater Eyeshadow Palette caught my eye.

Well, two colors in particular did, but more on that in a bit.
The palettes comes in a cardboard compact that's covered with a leather-like material featuring a gold, purple, and black animal print design. There is a decent size mirror on the side, but the cover doesn't stay open by itself so you need to prop it against something if you want to use it to do your makeup.

There are eight shadows in the palette, 7 in small square pans and 1 in a large rectangular pan. The shades include Meow, a matte ivory; Passion, a matte beige; Foxy, a rosy metallic gold; Lace, a shimmery pearl; Purr, a matte mauve; Saucy, a matte midtone brown; Hypnotic, a metallic berry; and Midnight, a matte dark chocolate brown.

The formula for the shadows seems to be the same one that Tarte has used in most of their recent palettes, except the Rainforest of the Sea Palettes. Both the mattes and metallics are soft, creamy, and highly pigmented.

From l. to r.: Meow, Passion, Foxy

From l. to r.: Lace, Purr, Saucy

From l. to r.: Hypnotic and Midnight

(I will point out that Saucy is a matte that feels a littler drier than the rest -- but it still performs well.)

The two shadows that really drew me to the palette were Purr and Hypnotic, and as predicted, they are my favorites. Foxy is another lovely shade -- I expected it to be another gold that I wouldn't use too often, but it has a hint of rosiness that makes it much more wearable for me.

Lace is another pretty one. It's perfect highlight for the brow bone and inner corner, but I've also been using it on my cheekbones and I love it that way too.

All in all, I think it's a pretty fabulous palette and I recommend it if you're a fan of the color selection.

It retails for $29, and is available on the Tarte website and Ulta.

Have you tried the Tarte Maneater Eyeshadow Palette? What's your favorite Tarte eyeshadow palette?
