Product Review -- e.l.f. Contour Palette

These days, pretty much every makeup company has some type of contouring palette on the market.

There are definitely some good ones, but they're usually pretty pricey and include a wide range of shades so you inevitably wind up paying for shades that don't work for your skin tone.

Fortunately, if you've been looking for a budget-friendly alternative, e.l.f. has once again answered the call.

The e.l.f. Contour Palette comes in a black plastic compact that's similar to the Powder Blush, Cream Blush, Illuminating, and Foundation Palettes. There is a nice big mirror inside that stays open by itself so it's ideal for putting your makeup on when you're traveling.

Inside, you get four shades: a shimmery ivory highlight, a matte yellow highlight, a warm light bronze, and a cool brown contour.

For me, this palette is pretty much a perfect palette for my fair skin.

The shimmery ivory shade is a perfect highlight for everyday -- it adds plenty of glow without any chunky glitter or over the top shimmer.

The yellow powder is a little too yellow for my skin, but if I use a very fluffy brush, I can use it to set the concealer under my eyes.

The warm bronze shade is too warm on my skin for contouring, but it works well as a bronzer to warm up my skin. It isn't too dark, so it doesn't look muddy at all.

The cool brown shade is an ideal contour shade. It's dark enough that you could go for a more dramatic, chiseled look or blend it out well for a more subtle contour.

Best of all, the palette is just $6 -- it's hard to beat that.

All that said, there is a serious drawback to the palette -- it's only going to work for a limited number of skin tones. If you have fair or light skin, it will definitely work, and it might be okay for medium skin, but if you're any darker than that, you should probably pass.

Hopefully, e.l.f. will add another shade for the palette that includes darker shades. They do it for their powder blush palettes, after all, and I feel like it's even more needed for contouring products.

You can purchase it on the e.l.f. website.

Have you tried the e.l.f. Contour Palette? What's your favorite contouring palette at the moment?
