Product Review -- Becca Ombre Rouge Eye Palette

A year or two back, when Becca Cosmetics first came out with their Ombre Nudes Eye Palette, I was really interested in picking it up.

So one afternoon when I found myself browsing in Sephora, I decided to check the palette out.

I was pretty surprised to find it seriously underwhelming -- the shadows were nice enough, but they all swatched as essentially the same color, with little variation among them.

The shades weren't that unique to begin with, but the fact that they were all so similar to one another killed any desire I had to pick up the palette.

Fast forward about a year later when Becca introduced the Ombre Rouge Eye Palette -- I was drawn to the palette once again, this time because of all the warm shades, but I was hesitant to purchase it because of my experience swatching the Ombre Nudes Eye Palette.

So I held off for a long time ... until recently when I was in Sephora once again and decided to swatch the Ombre Rouge Eye Palette.

I walked out of the store with it so it goes without saying that I had a slightly different experience this time around.

The palette comes in a long rectangular compact that has a dark metallic finish. Inside, there is a decent size mirror.

Like the Ombre Nudes Palette, Ombre Rouge contains five matte shadows. 1 is a creamy beige; 2 is a light mauve; 3 is a rosy tan; 4 is a rusty brown; and 5 is a reddish brown.

Unlike the Ombre Nudes Palette, there is enough variation among the shades to put together some really pretty eye looks.

The formula for these shadows is quite nice -- despite being mattes, they're all soft, creamy, and highly blendable. They're also nicely pigmented so they're easy to use.

I've enjoyed all of the looks that I've done with this palette -- the warm tones really make my blue eyes pop -- and I feel like it's the perfect option for days when I don't want to have to think about my eye makeup too much.

That said, I don't think this is a must-have palette for everyone.

First of all, while the shades in the palette are lovely -- 2 and 5 are my favorites, for sure -- they're not particularly unique so you may already have similar shades in your collection.

Secondly, they're all natural type shades so they aren't particularly exciting. Don't get me wrong -- they're perfect for everyday wear, but if you prefer bold, bright shadows, this won't really thrill you.

If you're looking for warm-toned matte shadows that are easy to work with and you can wear everyday, this is a great palette.

It retails for $40 on the Becca website and at Sephora and Ulta.

Have you tried the Becca Ombre Rouge Eye Palette? Are you a fan?

  1. I agree - not really outstanding colours but I think because they are so natural and matte they could double down as a brow palette? idk - maybe if you are doing other people's make-up I think it could be a nice addition to your kit.

    1. You're right -- these would totally work as brow powders. They are all warm-toned, though, so those tones would have to work with your hair color. I'm really enjoying the palette, but I could probably get very similar looks with other products in my collection. ;)
