Product Review -- NARS NARSissist L'amour Toujours L'amour Eyeshadow Palette

There's part of me that thinks that you really shouldn't consider the price when you're evaluating a product.

I mean, a lipstick is either dry and uncomfortable, or it isn't. An eyeshadow is either pigmented and smooth, or it isn't.

Whether I paid $6 or $60, it should still perform to my expectations.

But then there's the other part of me that says price really does matter.

Because presumably, when you're ponying up big bucks for makeup, it should boast better ingredients and performance -- standards should be higher for $25 lipstick than a $8 one.

As my sister always says, you get what you pay for (or you should anyway).

So it's hard for me not to consider the $59 price tag on the NARS NARSissist L'amour Toujours L'amour Eyeshadow Palette when I sit down to review it.

Because honestly, the product is pretty meh when I remember that I paid nearly $60 (not really, because I bought during the last Sephora VIB sale, but still... you get the point) for it.

The packaging is certainly stunning. It comes in a sturdy plastic compact with a cool mirrored lid that features the NARSissist logo. Inside, there is a good sized mirror, which stays open by itself so you don't need to prop it up against anything if you're doing your makeup.

The palette contains 12 shadows, four of which are 3.2 gram pans and eight of which are 1.5 gram pans.

The shades include: Cream Bisque, a matte cream; Shimmering Pink Sand, a shimmery gold; Amethyst Ash, a shimmery gray brown; Black Truffle, a matte black; Golden Starlight, a shimmery pale yellow; Sunburst Copper, a shimmery copper; Cafe Au Lait, a matte light brown; Pistol Grey, a shimmery gray green; Industrial Steel, a shimmery gray teal; Regal Blue, a matte midnight blue; Shimmering Taupe Cashmere, a shimmering taupe; and Shimmering Licorice, a shimmering black.

There's nothing wrong with these shadows -- most of them are pretty pigmented and apply and blend well enough, but they're not the best shadows I've ever worked with. I feel like I've purchased drugstore and other less expensive shadows that were just as nice as these.

The color selection is a tad bit lacking too -- with the exception of Pistol Grey and Shimmering Steel, none of the shades are particularly unique, and I feel like the palette needs a couple more mid-tone shades to balance all out the darker, smokier shadows.

Don't get me wrong -- I've done some pretty looks with the palette, and I really like Sunburst Copper, Pistol Gray, Industrial Steel, and Shimmering Taupe Cashmere, but I don't feel like they're enough to justify the cost of the palette.

It's apparently limited edition, but I really don't think there's any need to rush out and buy this palette. In fact, I'd recommend saving your money for something a little more exciting.

You can purchase the palette on the NARS website, Sephora, and Nordstrom.

Have you tried the NARS NARSissist L'amour Toujours L'amour Eyeshadow Palette? Are you a fan?
