Friday Favorite: Favorite Tinted Moisturizer

Josie Maran Tinted Moisturizer with SPF30

I tend to think of myself as something of a tinted moisturizer (TM) connoisseur.

There were so many years when I stayed away from traditional foundations because I was worried heavy face product would make my acne worse or that I wouldn't be able to find a shade that matched my super fair skin  - and during that time, TMs were my best friend.

Since they're on the sheer, it's easier to find a color that can work with my skin tone. I like that they add just a little bit of moisture to the skin.  And I absolutely love how lightweight and natural they feel on the skin.

Over the years, I've tried pretty much every TM under the sun (I remember distinctly that Neutrogena's was my very first at the ripe old age of 14.  Isn't it funny how certain memories stick in your mind?) so I feel like my choice of favorite in this particular makeup category is the most informed that I can offer.

And hands down, it's got to be Josie Maran's Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 30.

I've mentioned before that I'm a fan of many of Josie Maran's products - I'm not sure that I totally buy into the magic of argan oil, but I can't argue with the way her products perform.

What makes her TM stand out from others is that it's actually moisturizing - I can't tell you how many TMs I've tried that have actually had a drying effect on my skin (Physicians Formula Organic Wear Tinted Moisturizer, I'm looking at you big time.  That might actually be the worst TM I've ever tried... but that's a story for another post.). The Josie Maran TM does contain argan oil, which, while probably not the miracle worker it's touted as, does do a really nice job moisturizing the skin.

The other significant difference between the Josie Maran TM and others I've tried is the coverage that it offers. While it feels super lightweight and hydrating on the skin, it covers up discolorations and evens out skin tone better than any other TM I've tried. (I really like Stila's Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer, for example, but it offers pretty much nothing in terms of coverage compared to Josie Maran's) If you're going for a totally flawless look, no TM is going to give that to you but if you want a polished, even look without wearing a ton of makeup, this is the product for you.

It's available in 5 shades, and I, of course, have in the lightest, Creme.

Out of the tube, the TM definitely seems to have yellow undertones, but it blends into my cool-toned skin without any issue.

It has a lovely dewy finish, so it looks very natural on the skin. I usually use a powder over it, and it lasts pretty much the entire day.

I really can't say enough good things about this TM.

What's your favorite tinted moisturizer?
