Product Review -- Maybelline Dream Cushion Liquid Foundation

I've stayed away from cushion products because they just seem too gimmicky to me.

I mean, I'm not sure I even understand what the benefit of them is supposed to be.

That you can carry liquid products with you on the go without worrying about them spilling?

That may be important to some people, but I typically don't touch up foundation throughout the day so that really isn't much of a selling point for me.

Still, I have been a little bit curious because I am a total makeup junkie so when I spotted Maybelline's Dream Cushion Liquid Foundation at CVS when Maybelline products were on sale, I decide to give it a try.

It's definitely pricier than most drugstore foundations at $15.99, but it's not as bad as higher end cushion products so it seemed like a good one to start with.

The foundation comes in a plastic compact. When you first open it, there's a small mirror and sponge compartment. Underneath the sponge compartment is the actual cushion with the foundation soaked in it.

The concept is simple -- when you press against the cushion, foundation is released on whatever applicator you prefer to use.

Given that the foundation is dispensed through a sponge, you can probably guess that it has a very thin consistency. For such a thin foundation, it does have a surprisingly creamy feel and yet, it still feels extremely lightweight on the skin.

This is definitely a foundation for more of a natural look -- the coverage is light and the finish is slightly dewy, so you I feel like it gives your skin a very fresh, glowy kind of look.

I haven't had any problems with it accentuating dry patches, pores, or any other texture issues either, so it's a pretty nice foundation in my book.

My one issue -- the shade selection. I purchased it in the lightest shade, 10 Porcelain, and it's a bit too dark and slightly too warm for my skin.

There are only 8 shades in the line overall, so they definitely aren't covering all skin tones. In particular, dark-skinned folks may have trouble finding the right shade because there are only two shades past the medium range.

I would also like to point out that you get less product with this foundation than you normally do. Typical foundations contain 1 ounce of product, but the Dream Cushion only contains .5 ounces -- and you're paying about $15 for it.

Though, of course, there are sales and coupons so you can get a better deal.

Still, it isn't exactly the best value at the drugstore.

But if you're looking for a nice, glowy lightweight liquid foundation that you can easily travel with, it's worth checking out.

You can find the foundation anywhere that Maybelline products are sold.

Have you tried the Maybelline Dream Cushion Liquid Foundation? Are you a fan of cushion products?
