Product Review -- Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette

I'm always a sucker for a Tarte eyeshadow palette.

(If you're thinking that I'm always saying I'm a sucker for one makeup item or another, you're right. I'm a total sucker for all of it.)

The circular ones in particular always seem to draw me in because the packaging is cool and unique, but in the past, those palettes usually included blush, bronzer, and highlighter as well -- and if I'm honest, I'm not a huge fan of palettes that mix products (mainly because it screws up the organization of my makeup drawers because I don't know whether to include it with the shadow palettes or face palettes).

That's why I was excited to discover that Tarte's new Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette is a round palette that contains nothing but shadows.

Its packaging is just as lovely as others', though -- the lid features a pretty blue, purple, and gold design and the rest of the compact has a shiny gold metallic finish. Inside, there is a decent sized mirror that stays open by itself, so you could easily use to do your makeup when you're traveling.

Tarte also includes a card with a couple of looks ideas if you need inspiration.

The palette has 8 shadows: Sand, a matte ivory; Mermaid, a metallic gold; Seashell, a metallic pink champagne; Wave, a metallic gray taupe; Abyss, a satin-y dark brown; Reef, a metallic copper; Starfish, a metallic bronze; and Cove, a matte tan.

If you've used Tarte shadows before, it's important to note that the formula for this palette is completely different -- these are so smooth and creamy that they almost have a cream shadow texture.

Don't get me wrong, though. They're definitely a powder, but they're a dream to apply and blend because they just glide over the skin. There's minimal fallout as well.

The palette's other strong suit is the color selection -- they're all in the neutral or natural family, but there are enough dark shades to really allow you to get a soft smoky look if that's what you're after.

My personal favorite shades are Seashell (a lovely lid shade), Wave (a perfect option for a one shadow look), Reef (stunning with blue eyes), and Starfish (my favorite shade for a summery smoky eye).

From l. to r.:  Sand, Cove, Starfish, Reef, Abyss, wave, Seashell, & Mermaid
If you're a fan of the color scheme, then I highly recommend this palette. It's just so lovely to work with and looks so nice on the eyes..

It retails for $34, and you can purchase it at Sephora.

Have you tried the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eyeshadow Palette? Which shades are your favorites?

  1. Wow, these look amazing. There is not one colour that looks bad. And I totally get you about the packaging. The round shape is beautiful as are the colours on the cover.

    1. They are definitely all wearable colors, which is rare for most palettes I have. And the texture is just to die for! ;)
