Confession time -- I stalk the Sephora website on pretty much a daily basis, looking for new products.
Now, I don't always buy the new goodies I see, but I like to know what's out there so I can decide how badly I "need" this or that.
When I saw the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Blur Perfector, I was definitely intrigued.
A product that perfects the skin while keeping its healthy glow?
Sounds pretty fantastic, doesn't it?
But the product is $55, which is a definitely pricey in my book so I didn't rush out to buy it. I mean, I own exactly one YSL product -- the Le Teinte Touche Eclat Illuminating Foundation -- which I absolutely love, but because it was pretty expensive, I tend to save it for special occasions.
So when I had the chance to try the Touche Eclat Blur Perfector and a sample of the Touche Eclat Blur Primer for free, courtesy of Influenster, I was super excited.
The first thing that really stands out about the Touche Eclat Blur Perfector is its gorgeous packaging. It comes in a metal compact with a pale pink lid and gold trim. It has a decent size mirror on the inside for touch-ups too.
It also comes with a black, velvet-y pouch and a small white sponge to apply the product.

YSL describes the product as a balm that transforms to a powder to soften the skin's imperfections. It definitely has a creamy, balm-like consistency in the pan, but I was still a little concerned that it wouldn't be a good match for my normal to dry skin.
In actuality, it plays pretty nice with my skin. It doesn't appear to cling to dry patches and it doesn't have a dry feeling on the skin. The balm is mostly colorless, so it would work with any skin tone, but it does have a slightly pink-y hue that helps to brighten the skin just a tad.

In terms of softening imperfections, it does a really nice job of filling in pores and softening fine lines. It's not a miracle worker, of course, but it does give the skin a smoother appearance for sure.
YSL suggests three ways to use it -- all alone instead of foundation, over makeup to set it, and throughout the day as to help mattify and blur imperfections.
Personally, my favorite way is to wear it all alone on days when I'm not really wearing much makeup beyond mascara and tinted lip balm. It helps make my skin look smooth and even, without adding unnecessary coverage, which is all I really want on days like those.
I feel like it's a little trickier to use it over makeup. You really have to be careful not to apply too much -- I did that the first time I used it and when I took off my sunglasses, I had huge tracks across my cheeks where I'd applied the product to fill in pores -- and not to rub off your foundation or powder when applying it.
Using a patting motion when you apply can help with both issues.
I enjoy the product, though I haven't really decided whether I would repurchase when I finish this compact. I think I need to use it a little more to really decide.
I have to admit -- I was kind of freaked out when I saw the Touche Eclat Blur Primer.
That's because it's a clear gel-like product with tons of pretty obvious gold glitter throughout.
The idea of spreading big chunky glitter all over my face definitely isn't appealing.
And I didn't see how it would help blur anything because chunky glitter would only accentuate imperfections, wouldn't it?
The good news is, the glitter doesn't really translate to the face.
You can see subtle flecks of it after you apply the primer, but once you apply your foundation, they are practically invisible.
So while they're supposed to provide a illuminating effect, I don't really feel like the primer does much in that regard.
The primer has the traditional silicone-y feel of most primers, but it does have a slightly hydrating feel as well -- it contains various oils to help smooth and soften the skin.
Personally, I don't think this primer is anything all that special -- especially considering its $52 price tag for a full size bottle.

Isn´t this awesome? You found out that the product wasn´t for you and you didn´t even have to buy the primer!
ReplyDeleteThe packaging of the perfector is as you already said - so pretty, I can´t really see myself buying it because the texture does sound a bit strange but if I ever came across I would want to swatch it.
The packaging is so lovely! I feel like sometimes that's what you're really paying for -- to have a beautiful little compact to put on your vanity or take out of your purse. It definitely works on me sometimes. ;)
DeleteThe texture is very strange... kind of greasy. So even though it's a mattifying product, I feel like I would be scared to use it if I had oily skin based on that first impression. It does kind of "dry" down to a powder, though. It's very interesting.
