Review -- Lipstick Queen Saint, Sinner, and Butterfly Ball Lipsticks

Over the past year, I've become absolutely obsessed with nude lipsticks.

I'd always sort of liked them, but now, nude is probably my favorite shade category for lip products. I mean, I probably wear a nude lip 4 or 5 times a week... and that's being conservative.

In my quest for the perfect nude -- because makeup junkies are always on the hunt for the perfect something or other, aren't we? -- I finally got around to trying a few Lipstick Queen Lipsticks.

I'd read quite a bit about the brand the past few years, and I definitely was intrigued, but it wasn't until I realized how many fabulous versions of nude lipsticks the range offers.

Lipstick Queen has several different lipstick formulas, and I choose shades that fall into three categories:

The Saint Lipsticks are meant to deliver sheer, long-lasting color.
The Sinner Lipsticks are meant to deliver opaque, long-lasting color with a matte finish.
The Butterfly Ball Lipsticks are moisturizing, conditioning shimmery, iridescent color with a subtle flash of blue pearl to help teeth look whiter.

I purchased the Saint Pinky Nude, a subtle pinky nude; Sinner Pink, a matte ballet pink; and Butterfly Ball in Float, a pale shimmering nude.

I absolutely love all of the shades -- the nudes are flattering, even on my fair skin, because they're not those pasty, concealer type nudes. The Sinner Pink is a lovely deeper pink that has a very sophisticated look to it.

Of the three formulas, though, the Saint Lipstick is definitely my favorite. The sheer formula has a really nice feel on the lipsticks -- I wouldn't call it moisturizing, but it's definitely not drying. And while the color is sheer, they last a good long while -- I'd estimate three to four hours, which I think is impressive for a sheer lip product.

The Butterfly Ball Lipstick also feels lovely on the lips, probably even better than the Saint Lipstick. It actually feels moisturizing and is even thinner in consistency than the Saint formula. But because it is so moisturizing and lightweight, it doesn't last as long -- I definitely feel like I have to reapply every hour or so with these.  But I'll do it because the blue pearl in Float is so gorgeous and flattering.

Now, I'm not a fan of traditional matte lipsticks, so it's not a surprise that the Sinner Lipstick formula is my least favorite. It has a thick, heavy feel that isn't the most comfortable on the lips.  I don't think it's as drying as other matte formulas I've tried, but it's definitely not as nice as the Sinner and Butterfly Ball Lipsticks. I love the color of Sinner Pink so much, though, that I'll layer a gloss over it to make it a little easier to wear.

These lipsticks are kind of pricey -- the Saint and Sinner Lipsticks are $22 and the Butterfly Ball Lipsticks are $24 -- but the shade range is really impressive, particularly if you're in the market for nude shades because they offer several variations that are all pretty flattering.

All the shades that are available in the Saint formula are also available in the Sinner range (and vice versa) so if you like a specific color but prefer one formula over another, you can still get the shade you want without having to deal with a lipstick finish that you don't like.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Saint and Butterfly Ball Lipsticks. If you wear a lot of matte lipsticks and don't mind the feel of them, I'd recommend the Saint Lipsticks too because it's one of the nicer mattes I've tried -- if you don't like matte lipsticks, though, avoid these.

Have you tried any of the Lipstick Queen Lipsticks? What's your favorite formula and/or shade?

  1. The packaging alone would have drawn me in. It´s pretty different from others on the market. Downside: it seems the cases like fingerprints. ;)

    1. The packaging is pretty nice -- but you're right. It shows fingerprints like nobody's business. It amazes me how many companies use packaging that shows dirt so easily -- makeup can be messy so it should be in cases that are a little easier to keep clean. :P
