Review -- LORAC Alter Ego Lipsticks

Over the past year or so, I feel like so many major makeup brands have come out with a new lipstick formula.

Two of my personal favorites have been the Urban Decay Revolution Lipsticks and the Too Faced La Creme Lipsticks.

They feels super smooth and comfortable on the lips and are available in a wide range of colors, so there's plenty to like about them.

When I heard that LORAC had come out with a new line of lipsticks, the Alter Ego Lipsticks, I initially resisted the urge to try them -- I have plenty of lipsticks and don't really need any new ones -- but then I saw a set of 3 of the lipsticks on sale at HSN.com for $24 and free shipping when a single lipstick goes for $16 so I bit the bullet and ordered a set.

I chose the nude set, which includes Duchess, a rosy nude; Socialite, a peachy nude; and Secret Agent, a plummy brown.

The lipsticks come in traditional tubes with a metallic gunmetal cap and a plastic section at the end of the tube that shows the shade inside.

The Alter Ego Lipsticks certainly don't lack for pigmentation -- they are pretty much opaque in a single swipe. They have a matte finish, which isn't my favorite lipstick finish, primarily because most matte lipsticks tend to have a drying feeling on the lips.

Unfortunately, these lipsticks are no different.

They are not the most uncomfortable lipstick I've ever tried, but they don't have the creamy feel that I prefer in my lip products.

To make them more comfortable, I find that starting with a good lip balm as a base and layering a gloss over them is the way to go -- so I can wear them.  And I will.

Because the shades are lovely.

In particular, I think Secret Agent is going to be gorgeous for the fall and winter.

But I still wouldn't recommend them.

They're $16 each and you can find nicer lipsticks at the drugstore for half the price.

Personally, I don't have any matte lipsticks to suggest over these because I've never really met a matte that I liked, so if you have a matte lipstick to recommend, please leave it in the comments.

Have you tried the LORAC Alter Ego Lipsticks? Are you a fan?

  1. Well I guess we´ll have to wait a bit longer untill we get matte lipsticks with perfect formulas. I think I sold all the ones I had because they just never worked with my lips. :/

The shades of those Loracs are really nice and wearable though. :3

    1. Yeah, I haven't bought a matte lipstick in years because I just hate the way that they feel. These definitely haven't converted me. :P The color are very nice, though, so I'll just layer some gloss over them to make them more comfortable.
