Review -- Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs Lipsticks

It seems like everyone is always on the hunt for the perfect nude lipstick.

That's partly because we don't all necessarily have the same idea of what makes a nude lip color (Is it a pale, concealer like shade? Is it a my-lips-but-better (MLBB) shade?) and finding a shade that really works with your skin tone can be serious challenge.

When you're fair like me, it can be especially tough since nude lipsticks tend to be super light, which can leave you looking washed out in a hurry.

I was really excited to try Maybelline's new Color Sensational The Buffs Lipsticks because the collection contains 10 shades that range from super pale to super dark so I figured that there had to at least one color in the bunch that would work for me.

I don't think the Color Sensational Lipstick formula is the best at the drugstore, but I find that they're comfortable to wear and don't feel drying on the lips.

I purchased the three lightest shades: Bare All (910), Blushing Beige (915), and Nude Lust (920), which all have a cream finish.

Bare All is one of those super, super light nudes that can look a little concealer-y on the lips. It has definite pink undertones, but it doesn't really work with my fair skin because it is so incredibly light that it matches my skin and seriously washes me out. I'm keeping it, though, because I think it'll come in handy for lightening other lipstick shades or serving as a base for other colors.

Blushing Beige is darker than Bare All, but still fairly light. It has peachy undertones, but I find it much more wearable on its own than Bare All. However, I think it looks best on my fair skin if a layer a sheer, slightly darker peach gloss over it for a little more contrast.

Nude Lust is definitely my favorite shade. It's the darkest and has slight mauve undertones -- and nearly matches my lips exactly so it is a perfect MLBB shade. I can wear it without a gloss, though I typically do use a lip liner under it for added definition. It's one of my new favorites for wearing with a darker eye look.

If you're in the market for a nude lipstick, I would definitely check the Color Sensational The Buffs line out to see if one of the shades works with your skin tone.

You can find them anywhere Maybelline products are sold for about $7.50. I picked mine up at Target.

Have you tried the Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs Lipsticks? Which shade is your favorite?
