Urban Decay Dew Me Setting Spray Review

Urban Decay Dew Me Moisturizing Setting Spray

Because my skin can get dry and flaky, I sometimes have a problem with my makeup looking cakey.

In particular, using powder products can be tricky - but the only way that I can keep my foundation on all day or get the coverage I need is to use a light layer of the stuff. To eliminate any powdery or cakey look, I usually finish off my look with a couple of spritzs of MAC’s Fix+. Even if you don’t have dry skin, I think it’s a good idea to keep a bottle around because the product is just so versatile.

The fact that it keeps me from looking like a powdery mess is reason enough to always have a bottle on hand.  It works well.  I don’t really have any complaints about Fix+ (and I love its scent too!).

Still, as I’ve mentioned before, I’m always on the hunt for the next best thing and since my skin has been pretty dry this winter, I thought that Urban Decay’s Dew Me Moisturizing Makeup Setting Spray might be a better option for me than the Fix+. The Dew Me is actually supposed to hold your makeup in place for 16 hours without drying or making your skin feel tight.  Like Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray (which I believe is geared more toward oily skin), Dew Me is made for UD by Skindinavia, a brand known for its many popular setting sprays.

Now, I don’t really care about the supposed setting properties – I’m not really convinced that any makeup setting spray makes a significant difference in how long your makeup lasts – but I was hoping that the Dew Me spray would help eliminate any powdery or cakey issues that I might be having with my foundation, powder and concealer.

So far, so good.

It performs pretty much exactly like Fix+ does, though Dew Me definitely comes out as a much finer mist, which I prefer because Fix+ can sometimes leave streaks on my face if I’m not careful.  It still feels nice and cool on the skin, but your face doesn’t necessarily feel wet after you spray it. Dew Me has a slight fragrance, but it’s much lighter than that of Fix+.

It’s a nice product.

But then, so is Fix+.

So will I be repurchasing Dew Me when I finish up this bottle?

I’m not sure.

As I said, it works just as well as Fix+ so I have no qualms about it in that department.   Dew Me costs $29 for 4 fluid ounces of product, while Fix+ comes in at $20 for 3.4 fl. oz.  Fix+ is cheaper per ounce, but the savings aren’t that eye-popping.

The thing is, I use Fix+ for other things besides eliminating the powdery look that I sometimes get with makeup. I use it to dampen brushes and sponges or to turn loose shadows and pigments into liners. And sometimes when my skin is super dry or tight, I spritz a little on my face just before I apply my moisturizer to get a little extra hydration.

I don’t know if UD’s Dew Me could be used in all those ways. I suppose I should check the ingredients lists and compare.

If Dew Me isn’t as versatile as Fix+, then Fix+ wins.

But if you’re just looking for a moisturizing spray that’ll keep your makeup from looking cakey or powdery, Dew Me definitely gets the job done.

  1. Interesting post! I'm looking into purchasing a loose powder setting, however I'm also looking into this as an option. After spraying yourself, did you experience your makeup running at all? I'm sure it also depends on the amount sprayed on, but thanks for sharing this post. I'll definitely keep this in mind...XoXo Jen

    1. One of the best things about the Dew Me spray is that it comes out in such a fine mist that you don't have to worry about your makeup running or streaking (which is sometimes an issue for me with Fix+). The spray is actually so fine that my skin doesn't even really feel wet after I spray it. It's really cool. :)
