Product Review -- Tarte Make Magic Happen Eyeshadow Palette

If you're wondering if I ever buy makeup from a brand other than Tarte these days, that's definitely a fair question.

I have gone on a Tarte bender lately but it's not my fault that they keep putting new products that are so appealing -- but if you're tired of all the Tarte reviews, there's no need to worry. I've only got one other Tarte review on the horizon after this one.

And by this one, I mean the Tarte Make Magic Happen Eyeshadow Palette.

It's probably true that the last thing I need is another Tarte eyeshadow palette, but as soon as I saw photos of this one on Instagram, I was a goner.

Warm shadows with some purple tones thrown in?  Looks pretty perfect to me.

The palette comes in a small square metal palette. It has a gold finish and a cute purple and hot pink pattern on the lid.  Inside, there is a decent size mirror that stays open by itself so it works well for doing touch ups.

There are 9 shadows in the palette. The shades include: Imagine, a matte ivory; Abracadabra, a shimmery copper; Charm, a shimmery light pink; Twinkle Twinkle, a shimmery gold; Enchantment, a matte mauve pink; Believe It, a matte gray purple; Impress, a shimmery deep purple; Fantasy, a shimmery rosy bronze; and Miracles, a matte plum.

The formula for the shadows is similar to the one used for the Rainforest of the Sea Palettes, though these shadows don't seem to be as dense. They are smooth and creamy, but a little less pigmented that the Rainforest of the Sea shadows.

I think the color selection for the palette is very pretty. Pairing purple tones with warm shades is a favorite look of mine for sure -- it has a very sunset-inspired feel that I think works well in both summer and fall -- so there are quite a few looks I can do with it.

From l. to r.: Imagine, Abracadabra, Charm

From l. to r.: Twinkle Twinkle, Enchantment, Believe It

From l. to r.: Impress, Fantasy, Miracles
My personal favorite shades are Abracadabra, Charm, and Fantasy, which are full of shimmery goodness. The matte shades in the palette are quite nice too, and I love Enchantment as a transition shade for my fair skin.

The palette retails for $32 on the Tarte website and at Ulta.

I think this is a really nice palette, but it's definitely not a must have for everyone. I prefer the Rainforest of the Sea Volume III to this, though the color range is not exactly the same. In the end, I think you could probably choose one over the other depending on your personal shade preferences.

If you like the Make Magic Happen color range, there are also some drugstore options that are similar -- the NYX Cosmic Metals Shadow Palette comes to mind, and it's only $10. (I just picked this one up recently, so you can expect a review sometime soon.)

Have you tried the Tarte Make Magic Happen Eyeshadow Palette? What's your favorite small palette at the moment?
