Review -- Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Foundation and Concealer

Every time I go into the drugstore or Ulta these days, I feel like there's a new foundation or concealer to try.

I'd seen quite a few videos and reviews on Maybelline's new Superstay Better Skin Foundation and Concealer before it actually turned up on the shelves of my CVS, so I was super excited to give it a try when I finally spotted it.

Now, it should be noted that these products don't just promise amazing, long-lasting coverage while you're wearing them -- they claim that they can actually improve the overall appearance of your skin in the long-term too because they contain Actyl-C, a more stable form of vitamin C, so skin becomes brighter, more even, etc.

I don't really pay much attention to claims like that -- because I'd have to use these products every day, consistently, to realistically see those kinds of results, and I switch up my face products on the regular so that's never going to happen.

So for me, it all comes down to how the foundation and concealer make my skin look while I'm wearing them.

Because this is part of the Superstay line, I was a little worried that the foundation might be a bad match for my normal-to-dry skin. That's because long-lasting face products tend to be mattifying, which can dry out the skin.

While the Better Skin Foundation definitely has a matte finish on the skin, it's not drying at all. It doesn't settle in pores or fine lines or cling to dry patches either.

Maybelline calls it a medium to full coverage foundation -- I would put it more in the medium category, though I think you could layer it for fuller coverage if that's what you wanted.

It looks very natural on the skin too, so it's a really nice everyday kind of foundation.

It comes in a glass bottle with a pump dispenser that makes it easy to get out just the right amount of product.

I purchased the foundation in the lightest shade, 10 Porcelain, and it's a good match for my super fair skin.

I also picked up the concealer in the lightest shade, 10 Ivory, and it definitely has a peachier undertone than the foundation. As a result, it's a nice option for under the eyes, where you might need to cover dark circles.

I use it on the rest of my face as well, though, and the shade still works well.

In terms of consistency, it is fairly thin and lightweight and blends into the skin easily. I haven't noticed a problem with creasing under the eyes, though I do always set my concealer with some type of powder.

As far as coverage goes, it's not going to hide major discolorations, like birthmarks or tattoos, but I think it does a good job with the usual dark circles, acne, acne scarring, and age spots that most of us have to deal with.

It comes with a doe-foot applicator so it's easy to dot on just the right amount wherever you might need it.

The foundation retails for approximately $12 and the concealer goes for about $10 (though I picked them up during a BOGO-half off at CVS, so I got a slightly better deal. Definitely look for sales, if you're interested in these.)

I enjoy both of these products quite a bit, and they've worked their way into my regular summer foundation/concealer rotation. I'm not sure that they'll be the best fit for me in colder weather, but I definitely recommend them for oily, combination, normal, and slightly dry skin types.

Have you tried the Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Foundation and Concealer? Are you a fan?

  1. I've been loving Maybelline products lately. The Fit Me concealer has been a favorite for 3 years now and the Fit Me Matte + Poreless was all I used in the summertime. I have trouble finding foundation at the drugstore that has enough yellow in it and Maybelline face products work the best in terms of color matching. I totally want to pick both of these up now!

    1. Oh, I definitely recommend giving these a try if you like the Fit Me line. I think they're one of the better foundation/concealer combos at the drugstore these days. :D
