Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Gloss (20 Glisten Up Pink)

(If you haven't already, don't forget to check out my blogiversary giveaways.  You can read about #1 here and #2 here. Thanks to everyone that's already entered!)

I am a total lip gloss junkie.

At any given moment, there's probably at least four in my purse and another in my pocket so I have plenty of options throughout the day.

And I'm always willing to try out a new formula to see if it might reach holy grail status (the Buxom glosses currently occupy that spot for me).

With any gloss, there are certain tradeoffs that you have to accept -- if you want a non-sticky formula, it's probably not going to be particularly long-wearing.  On the other hand, if you want a long-wearing gloss, you're going to have to deal with a heavier, sticker formula.

Those are the facts of lip gloss life.

Maybelline's Color Sensational High Shine Gloss promises more vibrant color and a creamier feel, which sounds pretty good if you ask me.

I have the gloss in shade 20, Glisten Up Pink, but I actually didn't choose it myself -- I actually got it in a New Beauty Test Tube, Allure Beauty Box, or something like that.  If I'm honest, this probably isn't the shade I would have selected when trying out the gloss for the first time.  It's a light to midtone blue pink, and while it's not particularly bright, I don't always love this bubblegum-y shades on me.

However, on the lips, I like the shade quite a bit.  It doesn't seem nearly as bright in the tube so it's perfect for everyday wear.  It is very pigmented, which means it's a gloss that you can wear all on its own and still get a nice pop of color to brighten your complexion.

There is subtle sliver shimmer in the gloss, but it doesn't feel at all chunky on the lips.  As Maybelline promises, it does have a pretty creamy feel (supposedly due to the formula's honey nectar), without even a hint of stickiness.

But you know what that means -- the gloss doesn't last a particularly long time.  I can usually get about an hour out of it before I need to reapply.

That said, I don't particularly mind that. The gloss is really easy to apply because it is so smooth and creamy and the doe foot applicator is slightly angled, which makes it really easy to swipe it on the lips.

As far as the 'High Shine' name, though, I'm not sure I get it -- this gloss isn't any shinier than any other gloss I own.  I guess Maybelline just thought it sounded catchy...

Because I have plenty of glosses in my collection, I'm not necessarily going to rush out and buy a bunch more of the Color Sensational High Shine Glosses. But when CVS, Walgreens, or Ulta has Maybelline BOGO half off, I'll definitely check out more colors -- there are a couple of nude shades and a gorgeous coral that I just might need for my collection.

Have you tried the Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Glosses?  What do you think?  Do you prefer long-wearing, sticky glosses or smooth glosses that you need to reapply more often?

  1. my main gloss preference is the color. you can usually make a sticky gloss less so with a balm. gloss and long-wearing don't even compute in my book! i am however, a fan of the old fran wilson glosses, and dalton's lip glosses are close (just a tad thicker). that creamy formula feels hydrating to me.

i was wondering...have you tried any of the new revlon lip suedes? lots of buzz about them. linda

    1. Yeah, I'm the same way -- I'll go out of my way to make a gloss work if I really like the color. And really, I don't mind stickiness; it's dry lip products that I can't stand.

I actually have tried one of the Revlon Lip Suedes and it's on my review list for this week actually.:) I'll give you a preview, though -- I'm not crazy about the formula, but I love the shade that I got so I find a way to make it work. LOL

    2. ha! thanks :)
