Product Review -- Maybelline Color Sensational Shine Compulsion Lipstick

I've never been that big a fan of matte lipstick.

Most of the time, they just don't feel that great on the lips, and they only really look good if your lips are perfectly smooth and moisturized.

I also just personally prefer a little shine on my lips, so while we've been in the midst of the matte liquid lipstick craze the past couple of years, I definitely gave them a try but I'd almost always top them with some type of gloss or at least a cream lipstick.

So I've been really happy to see a resurgence in glosses and creamy lipstick over the past few months.

And the Maybelline Color Sensational Shine Compulsion Lipstick definitely fits the bill.

Maybelline boasts that these lipsticks are their first oil-in-lipstick formula, which is meant to deliver big shine and hydration. I definitely think these lipsticks leave up to that billing.

They feel incredibly creamy and moisturizing on the lips, so they're as comfortable as comfortable can be. In fact, they remind me a little of the Revlon Lip Butters that were so popular back in the day. They'll definitely be a great option for the winter months when lips tend to get a little drier.

But despite the fact that they're very hydrating, neither of the shades I purchased are at all sheer. They provide a nice amount of color and they definitely offer up some pretty big shine too.

Because of the hydrating, high-shine formula, these lipsticks aren't the most long-lasting option. They probably last three to four hours on my lips if I haven't been eating or drinking.

Baddest Beige (l.) and Taupe Seduction (r.)
I bought the lipsticks in Baddest Beige, which is a peachy nude, and Taupe Seduction, which is a mauve with slight purple undertones.

Both shades are lovely, but Baddest Beige may be a little too pale for some skin tones. Taupe Seduction is gorgeous and would complement a wide range of skin tones.

Baddest Beige (l.) and Taupe Seduction (r.)
The lipsticks retail for approximately $7.99, and are available at Ulta and anywhere Maybelline products are sold.

Have you tried the Maybelline Color Sensational Shine Compulsion Lipsticks? Which shade is your favorite?
