A Few of My Favorite Things -- Jan/Feb 2018

I haven't done a monthly favorites post in a good long while -- there are always so many new makeup products to talk about that sometimes it's easy to lose track of older products that can still seriously get the job done.

I really want to stop doing that -- I won't commit to doing monthly favorites, but I really want to try to mention the things that are really rocking my world whether they're new or not.

So here's what I've been loving in January/February:

Milani Romantic Rose Powder Blush

I bought a bunch of the Milani Rose Powder Blushes when they first came out, but I don't think I've used any of them as much as Romantic Rose.

It's just the perfect neutral nude rose shade that coordinates with nearly any eye look or lip shade. And it's matte too, so there's no worry about it emphasizing texture issues.

It is somewhat light, so I'm not entirely sure how well it will show up on darker skin tones, but it's worth a try I think.

MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly

This is definitely an oldie but a real goodie.

Everyone knows about MAC's Painterly at this point -- it's a nude beige cream shadow that makes an ideal eyeshadow base.

I've always liked it for really making my shadows pop, but as I've gotten older, one of my eyelids has gotten this weird crepe-y texture that crops up from time to time, and I've found that applying Painterly over it really helps smooth the look of the lid when I put shadow over it.

Painterly is slightly deeper than my skintone, but it does a great job of covering up veins and discolorations on the lid too. I tend to put a shadow primer under it because my lids are the one area of my face that's still oily these days, but I think folks with drier lids could use this all on its own.

LORAC Alter Ego Satin Lipstick in Cat Lady

My go-to lipstick shade is a nude or your-lips-but-better type color, but lately, whenever I pick one up, they seem to run so warm.

I don't mind a warm nude from time to time, but I definitely look better in more of a neutral or cool shade.

That's why I love Cat Lady -- it's kind of a nude mauve, but it's deep enough that it shouldn't really wash anyone out.

And while I wasn't crazy about LORAC's Alter Ego Matte Lipsticks because they were kind of drying, the satin formula feels so nice and creamy on the lips.

What have been some of your makeup favorites lately?

  1. That Milani blush looks so pretty, I should try some of their blushes! :)
