Beauty Ticket's 5 for $10 Deal

I was only in Brownies for two years, but the thing that I remember most fondly about the experience (besides having firsthand access to Samoas and Thin Mints during the cookie sale, of course) was the holiday grab bag that we did each year.

Everyone would bring in a gift that fell under a certain price limit, and our troop leader would collect them in a giant garbage bag. I’m not quite sure how we decided the order in which we picked, but we’d each get a turn reaching into the bag and pulling out one of the packages. Sure, it was a total crapshoot – you could wind up with something really cool like Ballerina Barbie or something not so cool like a Chia Pet (which actually happened to one of my friends) – but I loved the excitement and anticipation, not knowing what possible treasure you might come away with.

So when I saw that Beauty Ticket, a website that offers high end beauty brands at discounted prices, was having a sale where you could get 5 mystery prestige items for $10 – essentially a kind of grab bag – I had to take advantage. Twice.  I got two bags for a total of $20 with an extra $6.95 for shipping and handling to give me 10 items for $26.95.

Not bad.

Well, depending on what I got, right?

The first bag included a 1.7 ounce jar of Belladonna Body Butter, a Tini Beauty Nailtini Nail Lacquer in Cognac, a Milani Glitzy Glamour Gloss in Star Stunned (not sure Milani counts as a prestige brand but I do like these glosses),  a Jelly Pong Pong Supermodel Stain in Cupcake Pout, and a Jelly Pong Pong Lip Sorbet in Buttercream.

The second bag included an Urban Decay Big Fatty Colored Mascara in Black Cherry, Tini Beauty Liptini Lip & Cheek Stain in Chamboard, Tini  Beauty Mini Bar Lip Sugar Shots Set, a Jelly Pong Pong Gloss Bonbon in Macaroon, and a Jelly Pong Pong Lip Sorbet in Sugared Pear.

Now I probably wouldn’t have picked most of these items or shades myself – I wasn’t very familiar with most of the brands, actually -  but it’s fun to try new things, particularly when you get such a good deal. For instance, the Nailtini Nail Lacquer retails for $13, while the Liptini Lip & Cheek Stain retails for $18, so basically everything else that I received was ‘free.’  I haven’t had a chance to try all of the items yet, but I love the Belladonna body butter and really like the Jelly Pong Pong Supermodel Stain. It’s a very bright pink-red shade, though, so I suspect I’ll wear it more in the spring and summer.

All that said, this kind of deal probably isn’t for everyone. You probably need to enjoy gambling a little bit and not mind receiving a few products that you may have to pass on to family and friends. Personally, I would take advantage of this type of sale again in the future, though perhaps I’d only purchase one bag.

What do you think about deals like this?  Is it too much of a crapshoot for you?  Or do you like the excitement and anticipation of not knowing what you might get?
