An Oldie but Goodie: MAC's Bare Study Paint Pot

One of the very first products that I ever purchased from MAC was the Bare Study Paint Pot.

 

 I didn’t know much about MAC as a brand back then, but the instant that I swatched a little of Bare Study on the back of my hand, I knew that it was going to go home with me. It may not look too special in the pot – a shimmery champagne color that’s like a million other shades – but there’s just something about the way it looks on the skin – almost like there’s nothing there until the light catches it and then bam!

 I actually had to purchase my second pot of Bare Study recently, and I realized that it’s one of those rare products that I can honestly say I use as much now as I did when I first bought it. (I feel kind of bad for leaving it out of My Products I Wouldn’t Want to Live Without list.  What was I thinking?)  It’s perfect as a base beneath shadows that may be a little flat or chalky by themselves, but I also love wearing it on its own. 

On days when I don’t want to look like I’m wearing a lot of makeup, I’ll smooth a little of Bare Study over my lids and in the inner corner and add mascara – that’s all I need for a totally bright-eyed, wide awake look.  It’s just beautiful and fresh – a perfect look for warm spring and summer days.

Now, I’m a big fan of Maybelline’s Color Tattoo Cream Shadows – I think that they perform just as well as MAC’s Paint Pots but at a fraction of the cost – so I’d pretty much always recommend going with them over the Paint Pots. However, if you don’t have Bare Study, I think that may be one of the Paint Pots (along with Painterly) that’s worth getting – if only because Maybelline hasn’t come out with a shade that’s similar yet.  I like Too Cool, the shimmery white one, but it’s a little more obvious on the eye than Bare Study is.
